V:28 - NonAnthropogenic

Atmospheric Black/Death with an original sound - 84%

Visionary, January 20th, 2006

This is a rather interesting album and more complicated than it appears on the surface as it combines aspects of many different genres in an original way. Elements from Death, Black, Thrash, and even Industrial can be found here. A techno beat can even be heard for a few seconds during the track, Purity. When listening to the first track after the intro the first thing that came to my mind was Kreator’s masterpiece, Pleasure to Kill as the guitar tone and riffs are very similar except V:28 are not nearly as fast or aggressive but opt for the slower atmospheric effect. Echoing keyboards are used to help create the atmosphere. The vocals are a combination of death growls and black metal rasps and are done more than competent. There are a few spoken passages that can be heard through the guitar riffs that have to do with war. There is an overall industrial feel to this album much like Red Harvest which is understandable as the producer of this album has worked with Red Harvest. Occasionally dissonant industrial elements can be heard that remind me of Blut Aus Nord.

What is interesting is that the songs appear to be getting better and better as the album goes on. The album peaks with the final track, Zero Nothing which is an epic song with many different industrial sounds and riff changes.

Overall this is a very good album and V:28 has established their own original sound effectively and I look forward to hearing future material from them.

Standout tracks: ‘Zero Nothing, Purity.
