Adimiron - Burning Souls

a promise of things to come... - 75%

krozza, November 11th, 2004

Adimiron are from Italy. Surprisingly enough they don’t play cheesy power metal. This is a very good thing. Instead what we get here is a wicked slice of melodic death/thrash played with some stunning youthful exuberance. Signed to the increasingly impressive Dutch label of Karmageddon Media, Adimiron’s ‘Burning Souls’ makes all the right moves in providing a healthy mix of At The Gates/Death technicality and The Crown/Kreator style thrash. With a clean, forceful production (Luigi Stefanini and band at New Sin Studio) and a splendid virtuoso performance from guitarist Alessandro Castelli, Adimiron’s song writing comes across extremely tight and aggressive throughout. Sure, there’s bugger all innovation here, but the key to Adimiron’s work is that they keep their riffs interesting and varied whilst sticking to a well-established blueprint. Vocally, I have concerns with Leonardo Giola’s rancorous bark, which at times actually becomes a little too overbearing in its enthusiasm. Fortunately, the band has been smart enough to realize its musical talents and any vocal misgivings are easily waylaid in favor of lengthier instrumental sections. ‘Burning Souls’ hits surprisingly hard as a death/thrash album – as a debut, it’s not only got the speed, the metallic riffs and the muscular bite to please most fans of this sound, but also a rather impressive maturity that promises of greater things to come.
