Funeral Feast - Genocide ad Nauseam

Feasting On This Great Release! - 85%

Megiddo, February 16th, 2004

Not being familiar with Funeral Feast's prior discography, I didn't know what to expect here. I must say I was pleasantly surprised. This was one of the last releases of 2003. This makes me hopeful that 2004 will be a strong year for extreme metal!
While catagorized as black metal, I hear a more dominant death metal sound at work. Thy rhythm section is tight, ala Luciferion or earlier Deicide. While reminding of Deicide and the American death metal stylings, there is enough originallity to have this work stand upon its own merits. While many death/black metal bands fall into the "I've heard it all before" mode, Funeral Feast brings a fresh element to each track on Genocide Ad Nauseum. There is a healthy variety of vocal stylings, from lower traditional death metal growling, to higher demonic vocals, to even a clean vocal line here and there. Each instrument is proficiently played and each track contains a high degree of energy appropraite to the anger and scorn contained in the lyrics.
In summary, this is a higly reccommended release to fans of the death and black genres. Each track is interesting and distinct, both in the genre, but when held up against each other. The opening track, "Parasite", is a standout. I am eagerly going to be seeking the rest of this band's catalogue. You need this!!!
