Eternal Silence - Between the Unseen

An honest review of an Okay release. - 54%

This is okay, I wouldn't go past that though. Although the musicianship is amazing, it just sounds like all the musicians are playing different songs.

One thing I do like it for, and the reason i will probably listen to it more than once, is the female vocals. This is a RARE thing in any type of black metal, and it's definitely used well here.

At the very least I can say - this EP is WAY over studioed, sounding just too polished for something that can be considered black metal, I presume that fans of (later) Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth would probably love this, but those aren't bands normally associated with black metal, and neither should this one be.

Call them what you want, but this band definitely belongs more to the "Gothic Metal" realm of bands like Opeth, they're just not black metal as they're so BLATANTLY trying to prove that they are.

The keyboards are great, the drums, the guitar, the progression is crap though, it sounds like they're all playing completely different songs through the whole thing, if that wasn't bad enough, the keyboards are DEFINITELY playing completely different melodies and tunes than the rest of the band.

For gothic metal it's good, for black metal, it's complete shit. None the less, it's not a totally unsatisfying venture, the artwork is amazing, and the musicianship IS good, but I probably won't personally be buying any more of this bands work unless they learn to play together as a band.

One thing I'd like to hear is the woman sing a lot more, if it was loud metal with the female ocals over top of it, this would probably be one of my favorite bands, but they'd have to omit the keyboards and that goofy-ass male clean vocals...No one can sincerely enjoy that.
