Despondency - God on Acid

A Brutal Trip Indeed - 90%

necrophile21, May 13th, 2010

I had originally heard their second full length before this one and I have to say it lives up to it's title. It's a fucking trip of brutality full of blasting, chugging, slamming riffs that made me want to bash on my fucking walls when I heard it. Catchy as hell and I've gotta say the vocals sure do match the music behind them.

Embodiment of a failed brood was a great way to kick it off and it's enough for one listen to say that this shit is gonna be fucked up. The album continues with Fucked and 9mm Headfuck and the assault continues with blasting and slamming. Pretty much just kicking ass the the whole way until the albums title track. This was a piece of a work.

God on Acid reeled me in and pretty much made me an enduring fan of this band especially with that slow chugging part at about 2:45. That in my opinion was the highlight of the song and it's a sure way to bring up the intensity of the sound. Best thing they did was bring it back near the end and I couldn't ask for a better way to top it off. Viral Humanicide doesn't let up either following with A Mouthful of God's Flesh, two good brootal tracks. Highest form of brutality was a bit of a let down being that it's a bit short for my taste but nonetheless they keep it pretty downright hateful. The final track, Womb of shit has to be another one of my favorites off this album because of it's main riff which it starts off with. For some reason I can't take it serious and I laugh a bit to my self but either way it's a well written song.
The album is great except the fact that I noticed they used quite a few pauses where the drum snare would be the metronome and count off to start the passage.
It doesn't sound as tight as their second full length so in a sense their writing has matured quite a bit since this release. Anyhow, this is an example of Germans doing their thing when it comes to brutal death metal and they know how it's done. Stay brutal Germany \m/

Great German slam... - 92%

This band has really done their homework on slam death metal. I mean, the sound is very professional, everything from the riffs, the drums, the vocal patterns, pure genius. The riffs are almost too good to be true at times, leaving me at times stunned and sort of...for lack of a better, word, bedazzled. These guys slam like they're from this side of the Atlantic, maximum intensity, with ultra guttural vox. They don't fail where a lot of European brutal bands do with the overkill of catchy riffs. The sound is close to that of say, Disgorge or Suffocation because the majority of riffs are tech, but they're fused with slams that climax at certain points in each track. The vocalist sounds like he devoured rusty nails, very skilled vocalist here too, as he gutturally shouts, constanly changing the speed of his vocal patterns, production tricks? Perhaps. The samples are sort of apocalyptic, leaving me, the listener, with a dooms day feeling of distrust for corporate society. Very good album here, folks... Hope to hear a lot more from these guys in the future \m/
