Morte Incandescente - ...Your Funeral

1st wave spirit, 2nd wave execution - 90%

Portugal isn't really known for...well, any kind of metal. I mean, sure, someone will come out and say "ohhh what about xxx band", but come on. When you think of Portugal, well, my point is, we don't really think about this country when it comes to heavy metal. So a few years back when I was introduced to this band, it came as a shock to find that these two dudes were Lusitanian.

But enough about where they are from. It really doesn't matter. The music within Your Funeral is some of the best classic-sounding, modern black metal in quite some time. You just don't find quality like this anymore. The production reminds me a bit of Immortal's Battles in the North and Darkthrone's Panzerfaust/Goatlord. This style of production helps create a great feeling for this very thrashy brand of black metal.

After a short intro, the 8 remaining tracks pound you with some great riffs, excellent and tight drumming, and some awesome song titles. Come on, Steeple Fuck. It makes me think of Deathcrush except better! But all the positives I may have to say about this album really would not work if it wasn't for the production. It brings out the depth of the guitars and creates a very dark atmosphere, something that many bands attempt to do in order to make their creations more 'evil', but with Morte Incandescente, it just sounds natural, like its just 2 guys jamming on stuff they came up with after drinking beers and listening to Hellhammer.

If you're into that classic sound, get this, I can tell you right now that you will not regret it.
