Forlorn In Silence-S/T - 78%

Scattered_Ashes, January 4th, 2008

Forlorn In Silence is a fairly obscure band, the thing they are most known for is their drummer, 213. Their S/T EP is a decent piece of fast-paced, keyboard oriented, melancholy black metal. I have the release on 7” red vinyl, it only has two songs, so I’ll go through each song for the reader.

Veils of my Sorrows is a fairly repetitive song that has minimal guitar use. The guitars in this song are practically non-existent; and forget about bass. Keyboards are too repetitive, and nothing special. They dominate the song too much. The drumming is fast-paced, but lack variety. Overall, it is an attempt to conjure visions of bleakness, but fails to do so as fell as the second track on the 7”.

Trapped In Darkness is much more exciting of a song than Veils of my Sorrows. I find the guitars are more developed and actually add to the song. The keyboards are still a major part, but not so dominating. It also helps that the boards are severely more haunting and un-predictable than in Veils of my Sorrows. The drums are essentially the same, but that is alright. The vocals in both tracks add to the music and mood, but are nothing too special and not at all unique.

Overall, if you see this release on some distro site for $5.00 or something, pick it up and give it a spin. Trapped In Darkness is much more exciting, so be prepared for that.
