Dark Moor - From Hell

A new band...? - 85%

Metal_God, October 3rd, 2004

"From Hell" is the first piece of music that was released from the "new" Dark Moor. I was then extremely interested in how the new band would sound; would they change anything musically and would the new singer change much of the sound?

The song "From Hell" is far from what Dark Moor has done before. It's a bit rawer, harder and slightly towards a feeling of heavy metal, but still there are plenty of Dark Moor elements in there. We hear the new singer Alfred Romero for the first time and I’m convinced right away: his slightly female-like voice is perfect for the band! This is the best song from Dark Moors self-titled album and that means a lot. "From Hell" is of great quality and the correct song to use as a single.

The second song, "The Sea" is not as convincing. It’s a rather uninteresting power metal tune which is too long for its own good, as there are no catchy melodies or interesting guitar parts. The material for the song is good, but when you must hear it for 6-7 minutes you get bored.

Then a very beautiful song is up, “The Mysterious Maiden”. Here we have a guest vocalist, Beatriz Albert. She is an extremely good singer, in the veins of Nightwish’s Tarja Turunen. The whole song has the spirit of Nightwish and is definitely in the Finish band’s league. Beatriz wonderful singing is over-whelming and when she sings the catchy chorus, nothing can stop this song: it is a real winner!

A great single, slightly staggered by "The Sea", but the other two songs is of extremely high quality so this release just can't fail anyone.
