Angra - Evil Warning

Do I smell cashing? - 56%

ThePKH, March 2nd, 2003

While I really like the music here, useless is definetly the thought that comes into my mind here. There are four songs of which three are remakes from the great debut album and one is an edit of Kate Bush (!) cover from their demo Reaching Horizons.

Now I already said I like the music but as I can't hear much difference between the album versions and the versions on this release I am quite disappointed. The songs are high-quality Angra stuff, three of the best songs from Angels Cry (Well, Stand Away would have been better than Angels Cry). The title song Evil Warning is perhaps my second favourite Angra song and it is simply as brilliant as it ever was but again it could have been different. Same goes for the other Angra songs; they're too much the same...
The cover song Wuthering Heights is quite typical one but at least well done version of the already awfull original. What makes this Angra cover almost even more horrible than the original are Andre Matos's vocals. I use to like his style, which is imho NOT one of the best in metal but serves it purposes. While listening to Wuthering Heights I understand the hordes of Matos-haters at least a little bit. He sounds like a tortured cat. And after the first listen (which was more or less funny and positive) quite annoying.

I give points to the great songs on the album, but take away many for the ridicilous Kate Bush cover and the fact that it smells like cashing here.
