Gorugoth - Ankoku Shinwa - 100%

Satanic_Warmonger, July 9th, 2006

When it comes to obscure and underground, Gorugoth deserves quite a bit of mention and interest. With song titles like, "Revelation 4", "Burg Don", and, "Spells 1" these are enough to strike interest in any fan of obscure and underground black metal. The music however isnt as quick to the point as the song titles are. Each track is well, a trip to a new dimension, best way to describe it. Gorugoth is all about atmosphere, and thats a good thing because Kozima is a pro at creating dark atmospheres. Each track is a burst of roaring guitars that grind out some of the sickest riffs, he's not a amazing guitarist, but he really can dish out some dark and truly unholy black metal riffage. The drums are done by a drum machine, with the bass drum the most audible, the cymbals a bit far back. Although its not a quality drum machine, this doesn't mean that its some hastily made drumming to go along with the guitar assault, Kozima makes full use of the drums, in the end you get not only great roaring guitars but also some really nice drum machine programming by someone who knows what they are doing, top notch drum programming. The most interesting of Gorugoth's style is the vocals, the vocals are so insane and morbid sounding, its unbelievable because for one guy, he is awesome at both the lows and the screams. His lows are CAVERN DEEP! The screams are well, tortured sounding to no end. He does this on each track, switching between both styles constantly to create some of the darkest obscure and underground black metal. It should be said also that no matter how well of a description, listening to the actual album is so much better than any description of this album that can be written. So with that said, hunt this album down until you find it. Truly for fans of Lord Foul, Von, and any other obscure and underground black metal band out there.
