Black chaos vs. mystical occult - 90%

MaggotMan, March 30th, 2004

What a fucking excellent split...

First we are presented with Lust, so I'll review them first. There are actually only 3 songs and 3 instrumentals, which gives a nice brooding feeling before the songs start. I only have the split EP with Goatreich666 to compare, and going by that, it's obvious here that Sabazios Diabolus has completely improved on all instruments and production. First track "Prometheous Unbound" starts with a very dark guitar only intro, like a warning of the chaos to come. Then all hell breaks lose with "Faustian Spirit". To the unfamiliar, it might sound like riffs randomly thrown everywhere, but if you listen close you'll hear structured riffs, and they're quite dark and brutal. One thing I love about Lust is the use of guitar solos, and they're used all throughout the tracks. Just listen to "Weeping Prostitute 2" and you'll be amazed. This is the kind of music you want to listen to after getting your ass kicked in a fight, coming home and doing heavy drinking. The inner turmoil never seems to end, and Sabazios Diabolus thrives on that.

Next is Anael, with only 4 tracks, one being a cover of Death SS "Black Mummy", which is my favorite track. Unlike Lust, this band does not use ONE guitar solo, but I suppose this music doesn't call for it. Not much to say on this band, only that I've never hear any other band that sounds like this. Very dark gloomy riffs, and the drums have this mystical (like the band says) sound that again I've never heard in another band. This split seems a little odd, but it makes sense, both bands are very original and faithful underground worshippers.

Get this before it sells out.
