Avulsed - Stabwound Orgasm

Gore orgasm - 90%

CHRISTI_NS_ANITY8, March 30th, 2009

This album was the first one I bought for Avulsed. I liked then and I still like it now. This band is somehow unique in doing death metal because they always add a drop of melody when it’s required and this is perfect to clash against that ultra heavy wall of distorted guitars and suffocated vocals.
Avulsed band is one of the pioneers of the Spanish and European death metal scene and so far, we can understand their ability in putting out a quite competitive music, with classic gore themes and the music that follows the same style.

“Amidst the Macabre” is the intro for this album and the guitars are incredibly good at recreating a sort of Arab melody with the classic perverted touch of gore. The production is incredibly sick but somehow it exalts all the instruments with those massive sounds for the guitars. The title track soon follows, the first up tempo is now preponderant and in Cannibal Corpse style. The vocals are ultra guttural and everything is definitely more brutal without forgetting few catchy but rotten lines when the band comes to the mid-paced sections. The main riff on “Blessed by Gore” deserves more than applauses for its perfect catchiness with the unmatchable rotten touch. Here the lead lines are also more important even if the intensity never goes down.

“Compulsive Hater” is another awesome track because everything is strong, from the furious up tempo restarts to the massive doom section in which we can notice the return of the melodic/sick guitars to increase the sense of macabre. “Eminence in Putrescence” shows the chainsaw guitars and has lots of faster moments with very good guitars patterns and lots of tempo changes. The guitar solo is just awesome to change completely of atmosphere. “Exorcismo Vaginal” is a bit more common but maybe it’s just because that so far the tracks have been so great! The solo and the fast restarts are always good but with the following “Anthro-Pet-Phagus” we come back to excellent levels of morbidity with those guitars lines and the catchy refrain sung by that massive growled voice.

“Homeless Necrophile” marks the return of the appealing riffs with that morbid atmosphere of physical and mental decadence. The melodic break by the middle is simply shining. “Nice Rotting Eyes” is a bit on lower levels but always good, especially if we talk about the intensity and the violence of execution and the same can be said for the next “Skinless” that, however, has more mid-paced moments. “Coprotheraphy” has a sick tremolo riff by the beginning and, going on, the variety of the riffs is still high but with the lead solo we can again breathe a good atmosphere. The final “Virtual Massacre” brings the album to excellent levels, once more. The stop and go and the drums parts are perfect and always with strong structures to sustain the whole song.

All in all, I like this album a lot. Few songs are less remarkable just because the other ones are great and they overshadow them. The biggest work here has been done by the guitars and also the melodic solos are perfect to recreate that dark and perverted atmosphere. This is a very good effort if you like the true essence of morbid death metal.
