Embalmer - Promo 2009

In your face brutality - 85%

Rottenrectum, October 14th, 2009

I got this promo with a shirt I ordered from Gorefiend. I always like getting freebies and sometimes they can be pleasantly surprising. Embalmer showcases a pretty standard kind of brutal death metal with excellent guitar work reminiscent of old Prostitute Disfigurement and Necrotic Disgorgement. The sound is very bass heavy and raw with a pummeling double bass. This is great since much of today's brutal death metal is very harmless in terms of sound but at times it drowns much of the music, especially the vocals. Which is a shame because the vocalist(s?) displays a wide variety of styles ranging from deep gutturals to demented screams, which I really appreciate, it gives another dimension of variety to the music. Drums are as mentioned very thick and heavy in the double bass department but the snare is pretty weak. Guitars are the most prominent element in the mix, which is good because the riffs are above and beyond most of the competition here.

This is a great promo and shows a lot of potential for a future full length album. My only problem with it is the vocals should be more prominent in the mix. This should please any brutal death metal fan.
