Nuclear Winter - Pain Slavery and Desertion

Frosty Black Metal From Australia? - 91%

KristianWhailn, January 25th, 2008

That's exactly what I was thinking when I first got this cd. I knew that this was their only full length album, so hopefully it wouldn't suck. With mild expectations, "Pain Slavery and Desertion" was thrown into the cd player. What came out of my speakers was very intriguing indeed!

I immediately liked it. Not anything new, of course, just very well executed black metal that instantly drew me in. I could tell where their influences came from quite easily. Since Darkthrone and Judas Iscariot are some of my favorite black metal, I can also tell when someone else other than me worships them to. The atmospheres in their songs are very real and played with a catchiness that isn't too obvious. I've probably heard it at least 7 times by now and I really enjoy it a lot! Every song gets me headbanging at least 3 times!

Quite a lot of black metal that I hear nowadays don't seem to have that ability to convince me that they mean it! That FIRE burns in their hearts! Well, Nuclear Winter seem to have that double dichotomy working for them in all ways possible. I see the polarity of "Nuclear" and "Winter" and it reminds me of how a band from the desolate Outback's of Australia can create such evil coldness! Definitely a (((BUY OR DIE)))
