Element V

“Element V” proves to be a journey of far reaching proportions as Voyager take the listener along with them for a trip through futuristic metal that is starkly dynamic and oftentimes quite powerful.

The buzzing, guitar tones of “To The Morning Light” are fantastic and by the time the whole band kicks in, you have some of the most excellent progressive yet thrashing metal in recent memory. Bearing a distinct, sure footed sound, Voyager settles off toward parts unknown on the majestic, classically influenced “Cosmic Armageddon Pt 1”, which showcases some very interesting keyboard licks that conduit the gaps in between riffing.

A ripping solo introduces the vocal line and fluttering patterns of snappish guitars chug beneath the airy vocal melody. Its tracks like these that prove Voyager is a force to be reckoned with in progressive metal. Sophisticated tempo changes, intriguing arrangements and some fantastic performances, particularly on guitar typify this group’s enormous sound. As the album progresses through key tracks “This Bitter Land” and “Monument”, the listener is left with the distinct impression that they are not merely listening to any run of the mill metal record.

Outright luminous talent and sturdy production set this album apart. It is the well penned, impassionate performances that effectively fasten the deal.
