New Existence

The music is good but the vocals are a poor choice. I'm not sure if this is how they wanted the vocals to sound since they could only spend an hour and a half recording for 13 different tracks. I can't hold it against them too much. Anyway, they're very harsh, indiscernible, black metal vocals mixed with a little death metal. The production could also be way better and suffers from a lack of dynamics. It sounds very flat and more bass is needed. I read in an interview that the members wanted to rerecord parts of the album. That could explain the blatant flaws found on this record.


When thinking of what to write for this review, I remember their genre being listed as dark melodic death/black metal. I thought, "what the hell does that exactly sound like"? Well, it sounds pretty diverse and allover the place. There are also random shifts in direction that the song is going. The guitars harmonize a lot which gives the sound some melody. I sense traces of early Shadows Fall at times. Song structures are bizarre. "Devouring hybrid creation" has an amazing intro you just have to hear. It's clean and melodic, but it's only played once. The drumming is pretty much just death metal. My main complaint about it is: sounds a little too flashy like they're trying to show off and steal the attention.


The music is inconsistent at time. Sometimes it's very good, sometimes it leaves something to be desired. There are parts of this album that I really like and I'd say the musicians proved on here that they are more than capable of writing good bits of music. But there isn't a lot of substance to this record. Sometimes I find myself getting very bored listening to it. I haven't read any news on Coherent Liquid Form and this album was released 5 years ago so I'm not sure what's up with the band but if they do put out another record I will probably check it out because I know these guys probably can do better if they focused.
