Diamatregon - Blasphemy for Satan

The Beast Is Dead - 90%

hoyt, April 3rd, 2008

This record offers what I really like in black metal: ok, these guys are not the best technicians on earth and lack of skills, especially on the drums, can be heard here & there, one can also point out that there's nothing new in their lyrical satanic devotion but there's definitely something going there...
Something raw, aggressive, straight from a bunch of sick minds & rotten guts. Diamatregon are french black metal old-timers and they surely know how to pay homage to their legacy, there's even a sick Misfits cover ("Death comes ripping") on the album which gives us the key to understand it. Whatever music it is, let it be rock, punk or metal, Dimatregon likes it over the edge and so is the way they play black metal. Screamed or grunted vocals sounding improvised, larsens and chaotic blast-beats, this pissed-off feeling makes them closer to Discharge than Dark Funeral. Expect nothing more than primitive black-metal illnesss enhanced by creepy atmospheres on "Mystic death" or "The beast is dead", an epic 15 minutes piece that opens DMG's music to new territories. As they're third album is ready and about to be unleashed, this second offering is a must-have for all who likes their black-metal on a crusty edge.
