Human - Cadaver Academy

Kind of bland. - 60%

Empyreal, October 30th, 2009

This band plays mid-paced to slightly fast Death Metal with a slightly raw, punky edge to the guitars and raspy, grunting vocals. That description could technically be used to describe a number of bands, but today we’re talking about Human, who come from New Zealand and were formed way back in 1992, even though Cadaver Academy is only their third album. I don’t know; I just don’t find this all that exciting. It’s really quite bland music, and while there are some pretty okay riffs here and there, and a good solo at times, but they just don’t seem too inspired. There’s not really a lot to this beyond the band’s perverse sense of humor that really sticks out at the end of the day, and the humor isn’t even anything that special – “Anal Devastation”? Come on. A lot of these songs sound too similar and don’t really pack much of a punch.

Human don’t really do anything wrong with this album, but from a band that’s been around as long as they have, this album is surprisingly middling and safe, not really doing much to distinguish them from the pack. Get it if you really love brutal Death, I guess.
