Trollech - Dech pohanských větrů

In the Future, but not now.... - 34%

Demogoron, May 30th, 2008

I picked up Trollech’s Demo “Dech Pohanskych Vetru”. I was interested to hear what Trollech started out with. I figure “I like Trollech, so why not?” Well I can tell you now (before I go into detail) that there was nothing really spectacular here. Trollech can't seem to maintain a melody for a good amount of time. Either too long where it becomes boring or they'll kill it with the wrong drum tempo. I sometimes prefer faster tempos, but you'll notice that the slower tempos livened the music up (where the blast and semi-thrash beats killed it) I believe they used a drum machine, too.

The album begins with the instrumental introduction track called "Introllech" (real creative, isn't it?) A useless track really. It's just an instrumental but doesn't do the job that introduction tracks are generally supposed to do. It's a clean guitar that has no feeling or emotion in it and isn't memorable whatsoever. It doesn't set the atmosphere or anything and just wastes about a minute and 20 seconds of your time. But it wasn't all that bad, just useless. You just skip to the next track often ignoring "introllech". Next track “Opìt vidím ty lodì” Starts off with a riff that you can somewhat head bang to but then come in the blast beats and somewhat kills the moment. The opening riff was somewhat tasteless. The raspy vocals sounded very dull and the song was way too fucking long. A rather monotonous tone. That's pretty much the rasps for you, just a dull, monotonous rasps that just tires your ears. This song bore the living fuck out of me.

Later in the album, you start to hear more clean guitars and some clean vocals too. A slower tempo which, like I said, actually did some good for the album. “Lesem s jarním úsvitem” Starts with clean guitars and then switches to a semi-thrashy tempo, and then back to clean guitars. The rasps bore the fuck out of me even more (as though the last track didn't) but you had your moment of clean vocals which did a small difference. The clean guitars added a nice touch to it though. Another track with clean guitars and some clean vocals was “Píseò pro zemi v lùnì starého kontinentu.” This was the best track on this demo. Starts with clean guitars. But when the drums kick in, you can hear a touch of technicality which broke the monotony of the album. Some clean vocals which sounded alright. The rasps here were fine, but the vocal structure here was very nice. He sung parallel to the instruments. Decent riffage, nothing spectacular, but it had that "foresty" feel.

This is where the album turned to shit. The next track was Hagalaz R. About a minute and 27 seconds of one brutal song... brutally bad! That was one piece of shit song. No vocal structure. Riffs that were drowned in the blast beats (which did nothing for the song) so even if the riffs were any good, you couldn't fucking hear it. The sound quality on this album wasn't totally bad but it was still pretty shitty. Luckily it was short because I couldn't take it as it was. A second more and I would've thrown this shit out the fucking window. By this time I'm pretty bored of this album, but said "hmmm, maybe I’ll just let it finish. Only one song left...." Next track was “I see the Ships Again“. This song pissed me off the most. Remember track 2? “Opìt vidím ty lodì?” It 's the same exact fucking song! Only difference is that it was sung in English. What annoyed the living fuck out of me was that the vocals were WORSE! As though the original didn't bore me to death, The vocals seemed even MORE dull and monotonal. This song killed anything this album could've become. What a useless fucking track

I had to give this a 34 only because, although you had a few interesting parts here, those that bore you really devoured this demo. It was really a demo with 2 tracks where the rest were fillers. Not even. Just shit tracks. Trollech is a good band though and one SHOULD look into them, but this is not where to look. Look into their full length albums.
