Destructor - Sonic Bullet

Awesome thrash metal...aimed straight at your head - 84%

PowerMetalGuardian, May 21st, 2004

After the release of Destructor's second demo in 1987 tragedy would soon follow the band. In 1988 beloved bassist Dave Holocaust was killed, and soon the band would dissolve. Years later the band reunited and tried to glue together the pieces of a once great thrash band. This EP, Sonic Bullet is the glue that put the pieces together. Sonic Bullet is a very important release for Destructor. Destructor, in their early stage as a band, copied a sound that was predominant in metal in the 80's. A raw, fast riffs and drum beats sound, aka thrash metal. Sonic Bullet is a perfect example of a band going back to its roots. Dave Holocaust loved metal, and so the new Destructor gave that back to Dave and Destructor fans.

This album hosts seven new songs created by the new line-up. The riffs and solos are very fast, and resemble 80's thrash metal. Destructor is a big band about appearance, and I think it even goes over on this album. Songs like Sonic Bullet and Heavy Artillery screams fast thrash and the bands theme of leather, metal, and death. Sonic Bullet is also important to the thrash scene as well. Destructor brings thrash a well deserved quality in the new Millennium, like Over Kill and Death Angel.

Fans of the old Destructor have something to look forward to on this album too. The last two songs, Pounding Evil and Iron Curtain, are old Destructor songs that are done live. Two awesome thrash metal songs from the originality of this band. Musically this EP has it; awesome thrash riffs and solos, fast drumming, and high quality singing. Production is also good, coming from a soon to rise record company -Auburn Records. Songs to check out on this album are Sonic Bullet, Heavy Artillery, G- Force, and The Triangle. Don't forget the two old Destructor songs. If you like the way the thrash scene has become, then this is definitely for you. Their is not a dull moment on this album, you will bang your head through it all. Nonetheless it is an excellent step in direction for this metal band trying to regroup.
