Legend Maker - Lies Bleeding the Blind

Power metal without castles! - 95%

Mormir, August 29th, 2005

Before I start to examine the amazing Lies Bleeding the blind, i must state that I am a furibound death metal fan, whose encounters with power metal, though not limited, are still much pasionless and cold... except for Blind Guardian who really can teach anyone how to play metal.

Legend Maker are from Cali, a colombian southern and very tropical city. They released first the "Path to glory", which is not bad, but it is quite generic among the genre. But this... LBTB is a way different issue.

The first track is an instrumental that shows the virtuosity of the band (that is so power metal). What makes it different is the implementation of thrashy and angry riffs, with varied rythmic figures and clever keyboard lines. This is really a preview of what the disc will bring.

In the second track (i'm so bad with the names) finally the singer comes onto the scene, and delivers some fine and power metal vocals, being more versatile, entertaining and less shy (at times he is really furious) than the average vocalists, who despite of being excelent singers, are a bit monotonous.

I will underline two songs: one is the title track "Lies leading the blind", an outstanding metal piece, melting together beautiful guitar arpeggios, with tremendous bass lines (the production is top notch, so you can listen perfectly the bass), and even... a guttural voice! These guys tried to perform almost every metal element found in the metal specter, and they were close to it.

The other one is "Labyrinth city". It is a ten minutes track, very complex in structures, so entertainment is guaranteed. In the middle of the song all instruments suddenly stop, and what comes in? A piano colombian melody, that soon will be playing along with some flutes and other folk instruments. At the moment, there's nothing new here, its all just colombian typical music. But after that charming notes, guitars and metal company join and create a weird, south american, yet metal sounding tune. Outstanding!
(And i'm not even mentioning the other progressive stuff from Legend Maker)

Get this album. All song contain a sorprise, both for metal as for music in general, and if you're a faithfull metal fan, do not worry... there's always the double bass-drum, winding speed chorus with high pitch vocals.
