Mass Murder Festival

Ahhh, goregrind. What a fun genre. Just when you think you know every band in it, 50000 new ones show up. That was the case here. After checking out their split with Lymphatic Phlegm, I decided to check out both bands' actual releases. This is a combination of old school grind with some new school death influence, and of course, the gore touch.

What did you say? Every song sounds the same? Ah well, you're sort of incorrect. There is actually quite a bit of variation here, from the drumming patterns to the strange collection of riffs (a throwback to the days of old school grindcore can be heard in the grindy riffs)

There is bass on this album. It's quite obvious, actually. They did a great job on the production, as well. It's obviously purposely dirty, but it also lacks the constrictive atmosphere of some rawer grind albums, yet keeps the concussive force of yesteryear grind classics, as well as some newer stuff.

Let's see. Have you ever heard Paracoccidioidomicosisproctitissarcomucosis? Yes, there is such a band. If you have, then this band sounds a lot like them, except for one thing. Neuro-Visceral is a hell of a lot better, from the guitar tone (and quality of the riffage) to the actual inclusion of bass (who saw that coming?). Where Paracocci are mostly slow and drab with terrible...terrible guitar production and poor sampling (some are like a minute and a half long, talk about overkill), this is fast, energetic, and catchy. There are samples, yeah, but they're not stupid or long. Hell, this band even has a ton of groove at times, just like Paracocci do.

Enough comparisons, folks. You want goregrind? You got it. This is raw (but not overly so), dynamic, in your face, and brutal as hell.

Tracks you should check out before you get the album? Forcible Sexual Intercourse, Die Human Race, Fatal Anal Sex Disembowelment, Female Torso Collection, and Lifelock are keepers. Looking forward to new stuff by the grinders in NVE.
