Deadly Remains > Moral Crusade > Reviews

A refreshing demo - 90%

overkill666, April 1st, 2009

Come to think about it, I haven't heard a lot of new age death/thrash metal that I've completely gotten into. Deadly Remains have forced their way into my ears and shifted my mindset. This band really knows how to thrash, and you feel the power from song one until song eight.

Right in the beginning of this album, after the epic thunderstorm of clippage, you heard that which is Deadly Remains. This band is filled to the brim with power, and it's not everyday an underground band makes me want to mosh and headbang. Deadly Remains gets my applause for having the ability to write thrashing riffs without sounding redundant. That's a skill that many new age thrash style bands need to acquire. Aside from their power, they also sound so full. By full, I mean that everyone is together, and there is no awkward moments. Every riff and transition just flows, and I love it. The instruments blend in such a way that gives them extra force, power, or brutality. Whatever you prefer to call it. My only complaint is that the bass guitar could be increased in the mix because it's almost washed out at some points. Though, it doesn't purely kill the music. I'd love to hear it, but even when I don't I'm still enjoying the music. Aside from that one fault, this is a very strong demo. There's prevalent guitar solos, a strong rhythm in the background, and blast beats. Also, for the vocal lovers, the style that the singers use is aggressive. It reminds me of a mixture of Chuck Schuldiner from Death and Joel Grind from Toxic Holocaust. As you can see (and hopefully hear) from my comparison, the vocal work is very aggressive.

After a long while of listening to bands like Morbid Saint, Morbid, and the likes I was looking for something new and refreshing. Though, don't get me wrong..I have nothing against Morbid and Morbid Saint, they are very good bands. Deadly Remains was a refreshing listen for me, as I'm sure they will be for you.
