梅毒膣 - Complete Studio Collection

Now this is probably the best band I've ever heard, Syphilitic Vaginas manage to embody all things a metal album needs to be great. First of all Yusuke's guitar riffs are great, he is probably one of the most original guitarists ever, his riffs are catchy, heavy and the distortion has an evil atmosphere. Masaru's drumming is energetic as hell and he fills perfectly the guitar with his speedy drumming and finally Haruko's vocals complete the package, his ability to sing is outstanding and has a very unique tone, one of the thing I like the most is the changes he makes while singing, from a demonic voice to a cleaner one and even gives us some great falsettos like the one on Black Sorcery and his Japanese accent fits perfectly, so perfectly it even surprises you, finally, his bass lines follow Yusuke and Masaru's rhythms perfectly.

Overall Syphilitic Vaginas were one of the most original and perfect bands ever and probably one of the best of all time, it's such a shame that they decided to keep it underground because it could have been huge. Their music in general is so energetic and catchy with the velocity of speed metal, punkish aggression and their black metal influences adds an evil atmosphere that completes a perfect metal album. I highly recommend this band to anyone that likes fast, energetic music and if you don't like speedy music give it a chance as well, I'm pretty sure that you will be surprised by the musical talent of these guys. The musicianship between the members is extremely solid and fluid, and their musical talent and originality is always evident. Simply great.

Despite hearing lots of things about this band for a little while, this CD was my first exposure to Syphilitic Vaginas' brand of black thrashy punk rock-n-roll, and I have to say I was impressed. I wasn't sure what to expect going into the whole affair, as some people compared them to Japanese bands like Barbados, Abagail, Tiger Junkies, etc. and other friends told me they where more like Bone Awl, or Malveillance. In my opinion, neither side is really correct, nor are they wrong, there are elements of all the aforementioned bands (save for maybe Bone Awl, which was an awful comparison). But also other elements that should have been painfully obvious, like GISM, who the band is named after, but for one reason or another, none of them struck me right away.

There are some incredibly fucking rocking elements on some of these songs, and just enough cheese to keep it from getting stale. The over the top falsetto scream at the beginning of Black Sorcery, or the fake wolf howls on The Lycan Horror come to mind immediately. If you're someone who doesn't like cheese in their music, don't let this put you off, as the album is solid, and the few moments like the ones I mentioned are the exception and not the rule by any means. Overall I wouldn't call the album "heavy as hell" or anything like that, but it is really, really catchy.
