In-Quest - Operation: Citadel

the new hope for technical death metal - 95%

Choronzon, May 27th, 2003

Some years have passed since their impressive debut “Extrusion : Battlehymns” and now In-Quest returns with their latest offering. “Operation : Citadel” is a concept album based upon the World War II-subject. Opening track “Cross Cursed…” shows that the band has grown a lot since their first release and that their brutality is not something to be underestimated. Second track “Festung Stalingrad” proves the diversity of the outfit and is the first track in the concept which tells the historical truth of World War II seen from the point of view of soldiers, commanders as well as victims. NG’s lyrics and vocals are fantastic, this is not your average death metal vocalist who only grunts deep and low! The other tracks which are highlighted by “Bombattack Trauma”, “Coïtal Amnesia”, “Necklacing” and the title-song are of equal quality. Perhaps not the ideal recording sound that will fit the mainstream public, but this is a pure underground release of top notch quality. I hope album n° 3 won’t stray from these impressive technical standards.
