Lunatic Gods - Sitting by the Fire

A goddamned masterpiece of depression! - 100%

Satanwolf, April 11th, 2007

Lunatic Gods almost defy description. Mixing up ripping guitars with doomy, melodic parts, 2 vocalists(one clean, one growler), a prog-rock keyboardist and an excellent rhythm section, LG delivers the a full-on ass stomp with "Sitting by the Fire."
The music is heavy enough to satisfy any extreme death metal fan but the melodic side, including the keyboards, make Lunatic Gods something truly original. Some of this stuff is so melancholy, it just makes you think of death, old age, lost love, failure and hatred of the world. This is not happy music, so make sure you have your anti-depressants handy. There aren't any weak songs and the album should be taken as a whole for maximum depressive effect. My personal favorite track is the title track, with it's blast beats, heavy riffing and growled vocal patterns. And be sure to read the lyrics to all the songs, truly dark and morbid stuff!
From what I've heard of Lunatic Gods, this is by far my favorite album. There is no way in hell this will be embraced by the mainstream, but if you want something truly original and massively depressing, I can not recommend this band and this album highly enough! So get it and mourn the loss of the world.
