Bartholomeus Night - Survival

Wort listening to. - 90%

Sword_Massacre, December 28th, 2003

This is a different kind of Black Metal band. One of the things that probably makes them different is probably the fact that they are from Israel and are away from the European Black Metal scene. The amazing thing is that they have a certain tune and aren't too brutal but at the same time they manage to keep a certain tempo and never get too slow. The vocals ofcourse, play a big part in this band and their music. Bartholomeus Night manage to make their music a little different from the usual Black Metal by combining different elements. They aren't too raw but at the same time you can't really say there's anything clean about them. The first song i heard of theirs was 'The End of Time' and this song really got me interested in them. They have produced their own kind of sound and this is rare for a band that is relatively new to the scene. The reason why i haven't gone over 90% i this review is because they tend to get a bit repetitive which i suppose is bound to happen when one is dealing with a metal band. Another thing is that their songs aren't too long and don't exceed 5 minutes and this is actually a good thing since their stuff isn't very slow. Even though the album isn't perfect, its definitely worth listening to as they aren't your typical Black Metal band.
One thing about this album is that it isn't too heavy and it tells you that Bartholomeus Night is a band to watch out for and I'm sure if they release a couple of more albums, then you'll hear alot more about them. Other good tracks o this album include- 'Noturnal Chant' and 'So Silent'.
