'Gore' is putting it mildly - 80%

AtteroDeus, March 20th, 2005

To be blunt, there's three fundamental things which surprise you upon listening to this album.

1- Expect brutal sick death metal to explode forth from the speakers like some sort of daemonized aural vomit and you'll be surprised at the intro to this album. This intro comprises of basically just a couple of accordions (Yes, ACCORDIONS!) playing what sounds like some Eastern European folk tune. Put's a new perspective on bands using sitars and shit on their albums.

2- The production. Given that the band are from a notably poorer country (ergo circumstances) than most other brutal death metal bands plus lack the backing of a major label like Krisiun or a great deal of brutal bands, the production on this album actually - while quite 'raw' (ie. lo-fi) - rather accentuates the bands sound rather than detracting from it. In my opinion this sets them out from the seeming trend at the moment of either highly polished razor-sharp precision and intense time changes with crisp productions.

3- There's fucking accordions on this album!! How much more obscure and random can you get than a fucking accordion?

*ahem*

Musicwise, while I don't profess to be an oracle on all things metal, to my ears the songs on this album - maybe belied by the production above - the band appear to mix some fairly average (ie commonplace) brutal death metal sounds & stylistics with a distinct old-school groove flavour to it.
By 'old-school groove' I don't mean something in the quite as up-front way as say Insision's last album or Gorerotted's 'schlock-n-roll' approach, but a nonetheless evident old school feel to this album.

The song titles/ subject matter don't particularly appeal to me much, either because I'm desensitized to bands trying so hard to shock/disgust or just the fact that it's not remotely anything new.

In terms of the music though, I'd recommend this as a worthwhile addition to a collection decidedly bereft of melodic bullshit & power metal.
