Avalanch - Los poetas han muerto

Excellent Debut - 90%

FFC, May 5th, 2005

Yes you read right Avalanch is a totally new band with a total different lineup from the days of El Angel Caido and with a totally different sound.

I decided to rewrite this review since I noticed that Avalanch was coming to Costa Rica and I noticed that I was very hard with one of the best Spanish metal acts out there that has get a whole new line up to get this one out. Now to the music.

Lucero (The first track in the record) as always kick some serious ass a lot more progressive and a lot less power, fine by me, if the album has the high quality as Lucero bring to my ears. A ballad that began slowly and then turn quickly into the riffing and the vocals (man that guy can sing!) also the chorus is so catchy.

Cien veces provides us a more dark sound still prog and a excellent lyrics that talks about the struggles in life (Rionda made it in reference of the difficult times in the band). Then Niño musically reminds to Falling from their first album La Llama Eterna but more progressive (obviously) that why maybe I don’t love it because the lyrics are great (except the backing vocals I cannot really get into them).
Jamás just bring me to life: A fucking masterpiece; sudden changes in the guitar and the distortion make them sound really nice and the lyrics are just great and the percussion is also special in this one.

Alborada: a song about love in acoustic it is a beautiful song with nice lyrics but it just don’t fit in the album mood at all is not even a metal song. It sounds too different.
El viejo torreon began so slow I think I am going to get sleep but then it starts an interesting riff and the song began to get alive with the catchiest chorus of the whole album. Excellent song.

Del cielo a la Tierra could the the song that most people would related to because of the appearance of Andre Matos which is probably more famous than all Avalanch but this song is definitely not the best one of the album although is the more power metal of them all. I rather Matos in “Madre Tierra”.

Los poetas han muerto”: I expected more from the album name but this song in despite of an interesting beginning just stays there; this song had the potencial to the a great song but stays in regular. .We continue with “Madre Tierra” this is what I am talking about when I defend Avalanch among other metal heads in this song the drummer make some many changes in so short time and the guitars in the back are also changing constantly but also you can hear nice riffs and solos all the song alone also have a part sing in Arabic that is awesome.

Finally we get to “Ecos de Vida” to me, it sound like a power metal ballad but I must say it is one of the best ones I ever heard, the keyboards backing at the beginning the voice of Ramon then join the guitars and the drums slow almost acoustic, then more heavy and then a guitar solo that join with the vocals perfectly, Ramon sing and then the guitar then Ramon and then the guitar and so on till the end of the song… and the album.

I am not a huge fan of prog metal but for me sound like a mix Queensryche in Spanish with Avalanch of “El Angel Caido”. The album good at the first hear and a fantastic part of your collection once you get into it.
