Wasteland - Mare Tranquillitatis

A solid thrash offering - 90%

Xeper, September 3rd, 2003

From these relative unknowns, I found this full album for download on the band's official site, and boy was I impressed. What we have here is well-written and tightly-executed thrash metal, a la vintage Kreator with hints of old Slayer. "How to Get Mentally Cracked" is like Slayer's Raining Blood and Ozzy's Crazy Train thrown into a midpaced blender, while stuff like "Dead End" puts most contemporary thrash bands like Carnal Forge and The Haunted to shame with its no-bullshit old-school thrash approach. This album is a breath of fresh air in a genre far too saturated with clone bands and trendhoppers. No watered-down gothenburg or metalcore bullshit influences here, just thrash metal that goes for your throat. Check 'em out.
