Zaebros / Agailiarept - The Birth of Blasphemy

UG black metal … and nothing else. - 35%

oneyoudontknow, November 14th, 2008

One thing is certain: should the blasphemy in its creation have been supported by the music from this very cassette, then the outcome and prolonging would certainly be a miserable one.

Zaebros
Underground black metal
35
Two bands from Autralia can be found on this split album and each of them play black metal. Each of them comes from the very deep underground and each of their 'early' releases is very obscure. Having said this, the potential reader of these lines might already get some impression of what to expect: raw and hardly produced music.

Actually, both bands vary little in style and attempt to play a similar approach of music; see the line-up and you know why. The differences lay in the actual outcome, arrangements and the like, and of course the production. Fast and aggressive black metal is offered without being fascinating of well composed. Except for the first two songs of «Zaebros» all other ones on this release lack of power. The songs are not bad in particular, but lack of fascination or outstanding characteristics.

Agailiarept
Underground black metal

Two tracks out of six are played by Agailiarept and they offer raw underground black metal or better said 'live-rehearsal-room-black-metal'. It has the touch of being recorded with a 4-track recorder without mixing the outcome properly. The vocals have absolutely no power and are drowned every time the music gets faster, while the instruments vary in their impact and dominance. The bass can be recognized, the guitars are somehow dominant but the bass-drum leaves much to be desired. Worst of all, the two songs are not really fascinating; except for one or two minutes of «I am the Spear».

Pure average stuff.

Final bits and bytes
Those who want to own everything of every band from every country and every planet might find this release interesting, but the majority of the black metal fans will fall asleep before the end of the last track on this cassette is even reached. Nothing new is offered here and the performance is not of a kind that would allow it to be praised. Imagine «Pure Holocaust» by «Immortal» but less in quality, production and a lot of other things; when it comes to describe the first two tracks by «Zaebros». The split also reminds me a little bit on the best of by «Thou Shalt Suffer» from Norway, but without every reaching its quality.
