Abstract Rapture - Democadencia

Soulfly meets Soilwork? - 78%

timeforunleash, April 16th, 2009

Abstract Rapture is a band consisting of 5 great musicians, able to get to third place in the Wacken metal battle 2007. Their music can best be described as a mixture of the thrash bands you know, like Soulfly or old Sepultura, combined with a lot of influences from melodic death metal bands like Soilwork.

The album kicks off with Democadencia, which is the best song on the album, period. It's greatly produced, maybe even a little over-produced, the guitars are very overpowering and the drums are just tight. In the chorus, singer Drittt, sings more of a melodic passage, instead of just screaming, which he does really well in the verses. Riffs are quite well thought over, and there are absolutely no parts I don't like about the song Democadencia.

The sound of the title song Democadencia is a good example of the sound throughout the album. Track 2 and 3 of the album seem to incorporate a lot more influences from other genres. Especially track 3 has a lot of groove in it, but also some great guitar harmonies, comparable to those of In Flames.

There are, off course downsides to this album. Otherwise it would have been rated 100%, right? Well, there is a little variety missing, and a little balad would be very nice on this album. It is straight tight riffing and drumming and screaming, and at some times the band seems to forget a little intermezzo of sorts. Interchangeable riffs on certain songs do not quite make up for that.

However, these guys gave us a great record, and I am well anxious to see them live!

Luxembourg strikes back - 75%

Abstract Rapture, the luxembourgish Wacken Metal Battle Winner 07, finally released their first full length record “Democadencia”.

Describing Abstract Rapture´s style is not that easy, to make it simple I would call it Modern Thrash Metal. Imagine a mixture of older thrash bands like old Sepultura and more modern Bands like Machine Head but it also seems that the five musicians visited the “Göteburger school”, like for example the very melodic and powerful refrains especially in the first three songs, which are pretty catchy songs.

The production is absolutely perfect (nearly a bit too much for me) and the 11 songs kick ass, they are a real fist in your face, consisting of “Über-tight” drumming, guitar leads which give you the will to party and in the next second hit you with the power of machine gun riffs right in your face and also Dritt, the vocalist does a very good job and has a very variable voice which reminds me often of a James Hetfield from the “Black Album”.

Abstract Rapture does nearly everything right, the only thing I am missing is more variety (which is more present in the last songs) in their music and a bit more of the “dirtiness” of rock´n´ roll cause a few parts seem to be too calculated and predictable! If the Band will act more from a gut reaction or impulsively in the future, I can predict that the next record will blast everything away and that they will conquer and rough up the whole modern Metal scene. Nevertheless they did a very good job!
Abstract Rapture = A name to remember.
