Absolute Defiance - Systematic Terror Decimation

Not very original, but still good - 68%

mauser1987, April 15th, 2006

You could already know it because of the name, but one of Absolute Defiance’s greatest influences, is Dying Fetus. This is their debut album, and contains 13 tracks. Although it’s a Dying Fetus influenced band, they definitely have their own sound. Instead of sounding very American, they sound very Asian (wich isn’t that weird, because it’s an Indonesian band), but they also have slightly something South American.

Well, the album doesn’t contain very original songs, but hey, since when does brutal death metal need to be original? This is the typical blastbeat and fast riffage band, with sometimes some groovy parts. And the vocals are very brutal, but sounds quite 13 in a dozen. The production of the album is surprising good for a debut album. Ok, of course it could be ‘cleaner’, and maybe better, but the rawness of the production adds a great atmosphere to the music. It’s like you can almost smell the rotting corpses.. And yes, the lyrics are about gore..

So if you want something original and innovative, this album just isn’t for you. But if you’re a death metal fan that doesn’t care about originality, only about brutality, then this album is definitely worth the try!
