Unicorn - Emotional Wasteland

Nothing for Metalheads - 75%

TheSilentScream, October 10th, 2004

I fail to see how Unicorn is progressive "metal", as the front page says. Prog rock definitly, not unlike Marillion, whom founder Dan Swano lists as his favorite band of all time. Anyway, this was the final, and undoubtedly best of Unicorn's releases. This 1988-1995 project produced 4 demos, and 2 LPs, of which this is the most impressive in my view. Emotional Wasteland is very mellow, but unlike previous material from the band, comes (thankfully) without that fruity, starry-eyed lover sound. The first songs you should check out if you're sampling first are the title track and "Suddenly". Look out for Dan's new prog rock group, Second Sky, which he calls a continuation of the Unicorn idea. I would recommend buying this Unicorn album if you can find it, I think it's still available to order through Mellow Records.
