Disastrous Murmur - Where the Blood for Ever Rains

If it weren't for two annoying songs... - 78%

Disastrous Murmur are for the most part a great death metal band, an opinion proven by this highly enjoyable and catchy EP. Anyone that’s into Mortician will find bucket loads of gore to headbang to (hell, Mortician even covered ‘Extra Uterine Pregnancy’ on their album ‘Darkest Day of Horror). From the shitty production to the deep growls and highly impressive – if generic – drumming it’s easy to figure out what Mortician themselves have in their CD players most of the time.
Tracks ‘Extra Uterine Pregnancy’, ‘Ptomaine Poisoning’, ‘Molten Gristle’ and ‘Suppurative Frontal Sinusists’ all share the loud shredding guitar playing, with catchy riffs, great drumming and deep throat growling they’re all perfect examples of what death metal should be, with only exception being the second’s more grindcore feel to it as oppose to by-the-numbers death metal.
The only tracks that let down on ‘Where the Blood Forever Rains’ are ‘Into the Dungeon’ and ‘Satisfaction In the Morgue’. Both are dragged down by poor production that make the other songs sound like a Morrisound job. The vocals are weaker and the bass is too loud in the mix, which is a real shame as ‘Satisfaction In the Morgue’ is actually a pretty good song.
Anyway, this EP would have scored better with me had those to tracks been thrown away instead of left in to hinder the rest of the recording. But, if you don’t mind a couple of bad seeds, than you’re sure to find some great, raw material here.
