In the Holymarsh

Having heard their latest release, "Infliction ov the Morbid Intention", and also realizing that it was one of the best melo-death albums ever, I decided to pick this up. It's similar to their other release, though not as strong. It still shows what these guys can accomplish and how far they can go. In this release, they already prove to us that they can mix brutal with melo-death, which is obviously not an easy task to accomplish. Some songs start off with a really brutal riff and later become very emotional and melodic, with stuff like leads and breaks/interludes.

The leads, as usual, gave me creeps. They all sound like Gothenburg... but if you hate Gothenburg or just melo-death, or think melo-death is too boring or whatever, all you have to do is listen to this album once, and chances are you'll be convinced that this is an amazing release.

The only problem with this release is the repetitiveness. Some riffs near the end of the album sound they've already been done in the earlier songs. The last few songs could be cut and it would probably make this album better. Still an amazing release every fan of Holymarsh should get.

This, and basically everything I've heard from Holymarsh, is absolutely incredible - definitely not just another head in the massive melodic death crowd.

In The Holymarsh is a high-energy, fast paced masterpiece, stuffed full of excellent musicianship. There's really not a whole lot that I can complain about when it comes to the actual instruments and their playing. The songs are absolutely fun to listen to. It's speedy, heavy, aggressive; perfect for long time metal fans and newbies alike. Holymarsh is the prime example of what nowadays melodeath should be.

Now, onto the more technical side of things... Every song is just plain enjoyable, but still manage to stay interesting in terms of guitar work, drum work, and so on. The riffs are really unique for melodeath, more like something you'd expect to find in power or thrash songs... The drum work is actually varied, and not the same snare-ish sounding stuff that's horribly overused by Holymarsh's peers. The way this album is built is just completely different from today's melodic death, meaning it isn't tired and generic. I don't know, maybe it's just me creaming my jeans over a band I've taken a liking to, but seriously, check these guys out.
