Hypocrite - Into the Halls of the Blind

Melodic deathmetal at its finest. - 91%

Preliator, October 6th, 2004

If I would write solely according to my own opinion and the feelings I get whenever I listen to this album, I would give it 100/100. The production is excellent, save for that the recording-volume is quite low which can get annoying, but it's not the end of the world.

Track number two ("In Blood We End") will, if the first track already hasn't, most likely grab anyone's full attention. The intro, played on a hurdy-gurdy ("nyckelharpa"), creates a superb ambience, followed by heavy guitaring and riffs, accompanied by excellent drums. Also the vocals are very good. Other highlights on the album are the titletrack "Into The Halls of The Blind", "Awakening of The Gods" and "Eye of The Serpent", the latter being a calm instrumental piece, with a dark touch. All the other songs have great guitarwork (riffs, chordlines and melodies/solos), drumming and great growling/vocals in common.

This album is strongly recommended to all fans of especially melodic deathmetal, but also metal in general. This album is a great way to start listening to melodic deathmetal.

What melodic death is all about - 76%

Now this is what melodic death metal is all about. Brutal riffage, harsh growling vocals, and tons of mean and intricate lead guitar parts. Did I mention theres quite a bit of beat blasting, not overdone though, there is pleny of variation used throughout all the drum lines. Hypocrite's Into the Halls of the Blind does not let up, untill it reaches the halfway mark, on the song Eye of the Serpent (track 6) where it puts in a minute of haunting piano, then as the next song starts there is a pummeling of drums, dual guitars playing a very strong riff, then EEAHHHHIIIEEEE!!!!, hell yes! There is no letting up on this album. This is what its all about, a must have for any melodic death metal fan.
