Obligatorisk Tortyr - Återförödelse - 95%

Phuling, April 19th, 2008

Obligatorisk Tortyr released a killer CD back in 2000, if I’m not mistaken, but after their drummer left it seemed like they would never do another one. They had one more album left on their contract with Osmose Productions, but I guess the label got tired of waiting ‘cause here’s finally a new record, but on German Power It Up.

There is some seriously frantic grinding going on here. The riffs may vary, going from pure grindcore to death metal to hardcore, but one thing is for sure throughout this CD – they sure as hell know how to blast. The dual growling/screaming vocals are so incredibly wicked, the vocals alone would get your neighbors calling the cops on you if you played this a capella and loud enough. I’m ever so thankful for not losing that unique touch that the vocals puts into the mix. But of course the album’s not solely vocals. It’s tight-as-hell and it sometimes amazes me how they managed to not lose track of their hands and fingers during the recording. If this sort of frantic riffing doesn’t make your fingers bleed than there’s something wrong with your anatomy. As I mentioned before they flirt with both death metal and hardcore, and in a really skillful manner. It all gets me thinking a bit of Sayyadina to tell you the truth, but with more death. Lyrically it’s pissed off bits about everyday life and its struggles, as well as sniffing cocaine made from the bones of your enemies. So there’s also a little touch of humor (at least I hope so).

An absolutely ace record!
