Homo Iratus - Human Consumes Human

Very Poor...Nothing Good Here! - 12%

GuntherTheUndying, May 27th, 2008

There are times when music cannot sink any lower, and the dreaded curse continues to live on by molesting everything enjoyable as “Human Consumes Human” painfully demonstrates. Hailing from Greece, Homo Iratus is a “nu-death” band that tries fusing generic death metal with Korn-laden instrumentation. The offspring, my friends, is something man was not meant to create. Simply put, this effort is completely unbearable; it’s like witnessing Sepultura rejects praising the retardation of “Roots” while emitting flavorless hymns that make no sense or difference at all. Some simple math for you: Homo Iratus = nu-metal boner = a visit to the guillotine.

It took a lot of research to obtain an accurate description of Homo Iratus’ nature, mainly because they’re (rightfully) unknown, but individuals claiming these chimneysweeps were mainly “death metal” was certainly vast, and that is quite right, but only in the not-so-right ways. Fundamentally actuating semi-often growls and periodic deployments of vanilla-covered riffs, “Human Consumes Human” only dabs on minimal delectation from nothing extraordinary or remotely new. When you hear these heavy sections, there’s just blandness stuck in parking that simply won’t budge from that point on; any death metal group ever could retrace this CD and make it ultimately better. Pretty depressing, yet the truth-o-meter agrees wholeheartedly.

Taking their “death metal” influence out of the picture, we see a constant barrage of groove riffs, tribal beats, annoying barks, unstoppable repetition, and a tendency to ignore soloing, which can only mean one thing: nu-metal sperm. Homo Iratus (I think “sexual” would fit better) quite frequently respects this modernized tomfoolery throughout several tracks, leaving all decent attributes on a flat terrain with vultures circling overhead. Honestly, witnessing the blatant favor of nu-metal devours any chance of improvement, and it just continues evolving and growing like an undying weed. Who’s ready to JUMPDAFUCKUP?! Homo Iratus sure is, but I’m not.

Frankly, I feel this entire album is just a big mistake that surprisingly squeezed through the cracks, almost like a poor soul stumbling upon some horrible monstrosity never meant for human eyes. Forcing no-class death metal to have a baby with nu-metal’s safest qualities (although it’s still a fucking atrocity, unfortunately) leads Homo Iratus down a tragic road of bleak craftsmanship and delusional involvement, or simply walking astray because those “cool kids” told them to do so. Being completely honest, I’d rather listen to my tires rotate or find myself indulged with a friend’s relationship troubles than hear “Human Consumes Human” again. Really, it’s that bad.
