Enforsaken - Embraced by Misery

Not Bad At All, Only Lacking in Quantity - 75%

Well, these songs are not at all boring, they are pretty much melodic death metal in the vein of In Flames, but Enforsaken at times also has a bit of a black metal feel to them with their pure speed. The guitar on the album is rather good, and for most of the album you can't tell that this isn't In Flames until they get to the vocals. The only thing that I don't really care for about this album is that the singer cannot sing cleanly all that well, however is "death metal vocals" are top notch. Pretty much every song on the album has something interesting to it. Of Open Wounds is probably the track with the best vocals. The Acting Parts pretty much kicks ass all around, very melodic, well played, and even has some appropriate time changes. Embraced by Misery probably has the best chorus of the album. Dead Light, Dead Night is the most black metal oriented song on the album, with probably the best riff. The final two songs both offer good combinations of guitar riffs and all around enjoyable musicianship. I wouldn't recommend buying this album full price, because however it is only half an hour. Enforsaken is a rather unique band if you like semi-hybrids. Fans of some early and mid-period In Flames should be huge fans of this.
