James LaBrie at His Best - 93%

PowerProg_Adam, February 10th, 2003

Without a doubt, one can see that this band has talent before even listening to the cd. I would go as far as to say that it is better than a couple of Dream Theater's albums. One fact that most people probably won't like is the presence of quite a few ballads, but what makes these ballads better than most of those from Dream Theater is that their keyboard player isn't afraid to play piano. You definately won't confuse the keyboard for guitar on this album. I am pretty sure that most progressive metal fans will be in shock when the hear the songs Save Me and Tell Me. They sound like a couple of songs off of Dream Theater's Images and Words album. I honestly do not think that James LaBrie's voice has sounded better. Maybe Dream Theater should drop their record company and sign with Magna Carta and they might start having albums this good once again. Mullmuzzler 2 will not disappoint. The only reason this album does not get a perfect review is because of the opening track. Afterlife is definately the piece that doesn't fit this album. If you like extreme prog rock like Emerson, Lake, and Palmer or Jethro Tull, you might still like this song, but for those looking for more of a non-artsy metal edge, you'll probably think that its pure crap.
