Godless Crusade - Dawn of the Last Day

A Great Find - 83%

MrFeelGood, February 10th, 2008

I stumbled upon this album when buying some Entombed albums at a local record shop, I had only seen Godless Crusade mentioned once in a magazine, and only mentioned. So I decided to trust that my the album was worth the money and bought it.
Right from the beginning it's extremely fast paced, with some great memorable riffs, although the guitar work is not phenomenal it is definetly competant and many solos may not be extremely impressive but with the clean production sound beautiful. Godless Crusade also brings both growled and screamed vocals to the table, the latter can get kind of annoying and put a metalcore twinge on it sounding similiar to The Black Dahlia Murder style of vocals but it is nothing to really get upset about as both are done moderatley well. The drumming doesn't stand out to me at all on this album in a good or bad way, the blast beats are very tight, especially in the beginning of "Indulgence" which gives it a kind of brutal black metal feel.
Overall, this album really doesn't have any bad songs on it, but many fall into the medicore range, Some stand out tracks are "Indulgence" and "My Fellow Of Solitude" both good cuts with some good guitar work written in. This album is definetly worth checking out and is a stand out above many of the other newer bland, generic death metal acts around. But this band isn't going to be climbing to the heights of Cryptopsy, Suffocation or Immolation with this effort either.
