Lullacry - Crucify My Heart

impressive for something I thought I'd hate - 75%

DarkEyesofSorrow, July 23rd, 2003

As far as mainstream metal is concerned (not to create boundarys from the beginning) this was something I'd thought would make me cringe; but after a listen I found it a very accessible album; as for, I would say, many people.

Female vocalist Tanja Lainio (who is way hot) is not the same type of singer as the other genres that are now becoming popular with females as a lead vocalist, or with females as a lead and a male 2nd lead singing/growling; ie: Lacuna Coil, The Gathering. Tristania, After Forever, Amaran, Absentia, Dismal Euphony, Edenbridge, Flowing Tears, Within Temptation, Dark Moor (old), White Skull (old), etc.

She has the sound of a pop music type voice, which you would think is a bad thing but, makes it works with the band's metal edge. (a little different than those last described and that's what makes it accessible to some others).....but the music is melodious and crunchy, and when said, the band kicks out some power. Not a kick you in the head/ass cd, but you can get your metal fix (and actually enjoy the songs) while your girlfriend still gets her popness in the vocal department (no offense to all the diehard metal maniac women out there)

Highlights: Crucify My Heart, Pitch Black Emotions, Unchain
