Pretty Maids - The Best of...Back to Back

Decent compilation - 71%

Brat1983, April 20th, 2005

Okay, after about 16 years of existense, PM decided to release a Best Of compilation. It's an okay compilation with many great PM classics (Back to Back, Savage Heart, Love Games, Future World, Yellow Rain, Please Don't Leave Me, Red Hot And Heavy) but I think that the japanese fans/producers/whatever had a lot to say about which tracks were supposed to be on here... (for instance, what is tracks such as Attention, Waitin' For The Time and Walk Away doing here?) It's surprising that Dead or Alive and Twisted from the marvellous Spooked album (released the year before this one) are here but it's a great surprise, although more tracks off Spooked ought to be here!

There's also a new track, a ballad entitled Forever and Eternal. An okay little track although it doesn't add much to the PM catalogue.
Another track, When It All Comes Down, was previously only available on a single as the b-side, but it's nice that it's featured here. It's really a fast and cool headbanging heavy metal monster!! GREAT!!!

The biggest surprise here has gotta be PM's cover of Det Bedste Til Mig Og Mine Venner, the only track with Danish lyrics they have ever recorded. It's originally by Gasolin', one of the biggest Danish rock groups of all time and they actually play it well, but since it's previously only been published in Denmark (on the Gasolin' tribute album), it seems weird that it's here, so I bet that the japanese fans demanded to hear the band sing in Danish.

So all in all, it's a decent compilation. It may be a little predictable, and I personally would also have added Running Out and Lethal Heroes to it, but it's worth your money if you like PM/old school heavy metal. If you got all PM's albums, you might just wanna get the 3-non album tracks from the compilation in another way, but it's hard rocking PM with some of the REAL good songs from the past featured :-)
