Evil Angel - Unholy Fight for Metal

Best album of 2007 - 99%

Foreboding, July 26th, 2008

Yes, I said it. This is the best album of 2007.

Evil Angel is a tough band to describe, but I'll try my best. Take the balls to the wall energy of Sarcofago, mix that with hyperspeed blackened thrash riffing like maybe a sped up Sodom, add in a few touches of old Napalm Death style punked out grindcore riffs here and there, and top it off with BMish raspy vocals and the occasional WAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!! for good measure and you at least have an idea of what is happening here.

This album is a total masterpiece. It's hard to believe something that sounds like this came out in 2007. Even the production screams 1987 shithole studio and that completely works for them. My only complaint with the production is the snare drum is a little overpowering at times, but I guess that sorta adds to the frenzy that is Evil Angel.

There are no bad tracks, only tracks that are a little better than others. Although there are only 9 songs on this album, tracks like 'Evil Night', 'Infernal Hell', and 'Fire In Pentagram' lead the way for me. The closer, 'Morbid Sabbath' is also an amazing song, and maybe a bit more varied than the others. The riffs are almost flawless throughout the entire album, and you can tell the drummer is playing at his absolute max almost ALL the time.

I'm not sure exactly who would like a band like Evil Angel, because they really don't sound like anyone at all. Of course they have elements of other styles, but they aren't one of those bands where you can easily throw out a name of another band to compare them to.

I decided to give it a 99 instead of 100 only because the album is waaaaaay too short. I want more! I think with these song lengths, they could have put 12 songs on here without a problem. Hell, that still wouldn't be enough!
