Inhumate - At War With Inhumate - 80%

Phuling, April 23rd, 2008

When I first heard of this DVD I was very eager to get my hands on it, and an innocent hint about my eagerness I received it in my mailbox.

I’ve unfortunately never had the chance to see these guys live for real, but I’ve seen quite a few live recordings, so I knew it would be something extra. Christophe, the madman behind the mic, starts the gig and DVD off by smashing the mic into his forehead until it bleeds – and we wouldn’t have it any other way! The band starts mangling their arse off and the crowd goes wild. I’m not sure who moshes the most; the band or the crowd, just the way it should be! Inhumate is one of those bands that invites the crowd up on stage, and there got to have been at least 20 people up there banging their heads into a frenzy. So it’s a really great gig in that aspect, with Christophe being both under, over and in amongst the fans. You also get a full and rich sound, and the whole thing is filmed with five cameras. A few times, however, I think the clipping in between the cameras is too fast and the image is just a little too dark, but other than that this is just bloody awesome. It’s a shame I have absolutely no idea what’s being said in between songs, ‘cause I only know the dirty French words.

The performance was recorded at the band’s 15 year anniversary gig in late 2005, and supporting them were no others than Mumakil, Ingrowing and Deranged. And it sucks that those gigs aren’t included on the DVD, but then again it is Inhumate’s anniversary release. Along with the 23 tracks from that gig you’ll also find some bonus live material from the bands early days with a different vocalist and drummer. I’m glad that Christophe took over the mic, though, ‘cause the old vocalist Sébastien looks scared, shy and uncomfortable on stage, where as Christophe seems to be born on stage. However, Genocide, on of the earlier tracks, is a real killer! All in all a bloody awesome release with one of the most dedicated bands on the planet!
