Black Asylum - Victims of the Fall

Amazing Offering from Down Under! - 100%

Pratl1971, January 21st, 2008

I have to say that being into the metal scene for 30-years in some capacity or another has afforded me the opportunity to hear some truly significant, relevant and amazing bands. I've heard my share of shit, sure, but let me tell you, from the depths of my blackened soul within my charcoal-gray ribcage, Black Asylum is NOT shit by any stretch!

I'll admit a bit of fear and trepidation when I saw Slipknot within the text, but I was still so intrigued by the bio and song titles that I had to forgo my hesitation and give them a try. I'm happy to say I was not only happily surprised, but more than incredibly impressed. While I find the sound pretty much a mesh of old (groaaaan) Metallica fused with Pantera, the vocals are Anselmo fusing hellishly with early Dark Tranquility ala Enter Suicidal Angels-era. The production is top-notch and very reminiscent of a Flemming Rassmussen-esque sound. I might just still have Evile on the brain, but no matter - these guys are leaping steps above the normal cr(a)op seeping out from the underground of late.

I have said this about VERY few bands in the last decade or so, but this is the band that will put the true metal feel back on the map and hopefully generate a new crop of headbangers that will ignore the trends and stay true to the styles and genres they grew up with, much like my cohorts and myself have.

Australia has set itself very high on the map with Black Asylum - I seriously can't wait to hear more from these guys and I suggest you set the dial to 11 and get this as soon as you can! Contact them on MySpace and keep up on these guys...trust me.
