Baptised in Ice - Frozen Heart

Hail to brazilian underground! - 100%

I can`t describe what I felt when i listened this ep. I can`t believe that Baptised in Ice is growing on this way, they changed from minimalistic heavy metal(with Bathory influence) to a super professional(in all ways) Black Metal. The ep reunite a extreme fast and well played black metal with some viking metal, it begin filled with brutality as the song Across the Light shows in all 5 minutes of good music. As in the lyrics this song transport you to the hall of Asgard. Those perfect guitars allied with the epic keyboards make the music true original and beautiful, the drums and the bass come to my hears as a thunder making you bang without thinking. The vocals are perfect!! And the chorus ? Outstanding. The second and last song is called Frozen Heart .What can i say ? It`s a classic, all the instruments work with perfection, the vocalist did a perfect work in the chorus( believe me, you`ll never forget that chorus). The lyrics are difficult to be labeled but are very cool. This is my first review and i`m proud to be rating a Brazilian band!

Did you ever wonder what Brazilian black viking metal would sound like? Well wonder no more. It sounds like Baptised in Ice. This two song EP was released on CDR so it probably won't be riding the sails to a record store near you, but it's worth a listen if you see it floating around.

The first track "Across the Light" is full of blast beats and black metal growls laying down the foundation for some Ihsahn like swooning. The production is very tinny with some hyper precise drumming. It's not very Wotan inspiring but I won't knock the effort.

"Frozen Heart" is the better of the two tracks. It's slower overall and has an almost power metal like quality to it after the initial surge of blast beat drumming that doesn't really belong. The signature mid-tempo viking sound is still there, almost at war with the other influences being presented. His heart is frozen and he doesn't sound happy about it.

Nothing striking stands out on this release, though it isn't particularly bad either.
