Deathmoon - Daemoonhermeticum

Nothing good here ... move along. - 40%

This would be the first and so far only release by the Russian black metal band Deathmoon. Three tracks are offered here and their style can be described as some sort of aggressive and fast black metal. Dark Funeral, Setherial could be cited as sources of influences, but despite the early stage of the band 'career' already some attempts can be seen in establishing an own identity; the release opens with an acoustic intro, closes with some weird noisy scratching of the strings and the music is not entirely blasting but offers also some slower interludes.

Daemoonhermeticum opens with the track The Grand Bewitchment and there the trouble already begins. The first part of it would be played by an acoustic guitar, while the second comes in a midtempo black metal approach. Fine one might think, but the music switches gapless from one to the other and offers no coherent picture. The parts could easily be seen as something separate, which had been combined for no apparent reason. Actually, this would be the greatest 'flaw' on the release. A smaller one could be found in the weird opening of the title track, but maybe others think different. The rest of the music is simply fast played black metal with some interludes, excessively loaded with vocals and the boring play of a drum-computer; yes, I do not like these machines. It should be mentioned thought that the bass can be heard and also production is not bad. Yet all breathed the odour of being copied from somewhere else, without being able to progress it on a new stage.

Well, this demo is listenable, but fails to fascinate with neat ideas or arrangements. The performance does not exceed anything that had been done before -- and in a better fashion, this is out of the question. So, fans of the underground scene with the tendency to ignore flaws, loopholes and inconsistency in the compositions might check this release out. The majority should look for better music.
