Unholy Grave - Aussie Disorder

Tornado Grind - 80%

sysyphis, March 27th, 2008

Unholy grave is quite prolific. It's quite hard to keep up with most of thier out put. This is a menacing live ep over two 7 inch records and when I say it sounds live I mean it. Drums sound exactly like the do when you are in a small club.
Guitarwork is a blur. Songs are rarely under two minutes. But this band has "it" for sure.

They are tight and rip through the set without any interuptions. Bass is barely audible, but who cares, this is some ferocious shit. The live quality is so real and raw you can smell the cigrettes and imagine yousel dodging broken beer bottles on the floor. I would love to see this band live.

Most of the lyrics deal with eco issues, anti-terrorism, etc. The vocals are unique and allthough they are shouted outther is a nice midrange that complements the music completely. There are no standout tracks because they are all great and to be honest with you I could not name one song on the EP. By the way this is a double EP but clocks in at just the right amount of time for a short lp.

The packaging is gorgeous. Page after page road experiences, photos, artwork and general musings. Production is raw but not of bootleg quality.
The pace is fast and chaotic with no signs of letting up to the end. There are a few midpaced parts but the are far and few between. Imagine Napalm Death as the gateway drug and these guys as heroin.

Unholy grave have put out a lot of stuff. This may not be a good place to start . Perhaps a newbie would like Revoltage which is a proper album with decent production. Most of thier stuff is available so seek it out and prepare to be blown away, This sounds cliched, but the louder you play these records, the more intense they are. Crank that shit up, and oh yeah recycle.
